Summary
The Rio Grande deserves the reputation as one of the finest fishing locations in the world this is due to the spectacular sea trout and stunning Patagonian vistas. Villa Maria has offered small private groups exciting fishing on some of the most productive pools in the lower river since 1994. Villa Maria is a double handed fishermen's dream, enjoying the first crack of the whip at newly arrived sea trout. With friendly and dedicated house staff and guides, Villa Maria is very well suited to caring for small groups of friends or family groups.
Fishing
Situated on the lower reaches of the Rio Grande, the Villa Maria water gives fly fishers access to some of the most prolific beats on this world famous river. The Rio Grande sea trout are the largest sea run brown trout in the world with an average weight of over ten pounds, with fish up to thirty pounds caught each season.
The Lodge
Villa Maria lodge was designed to offer rods maximum comfort during their fishing trip, as well as easy accessibility to the pools. It accommodates up to 6 guests in 3 twin rooms and 1 single bedroom. A large living room area opens up to vista's of the Menendez Valley and Rio Grande valley. A large roaring fire and well stocked bar will welcome you after every fishing session. In addition, guests have the full use of the lodge's fly tying table and equipment.
Villa Maria offers wonderful cuisine based on local meats, fresh vegetable and delicious deserts. A traditional Asado (BBQ) will be held once during your stay, and you can sample different cuts of meat and wonderful salads. A full cooked breakfast is available, together with fresh fruit, yogurts, home baked breads and jams and a selection of cereals. Villa Maria's cellars feature a wonderful selection of fine wines from the Luigi Bosca Bodega, wich will be served during lunch and dinner.
Equipment
Despite many anglers preconceptions the Rio Grande is not a huge river by UK and Scottish standards. Therefore a 13 or 14 ft double hander coupled with short headed multi tip line or shooting head set up is perfect. Many of our clients have also fished exclusively with single handed rods on the Villa Maria water with great success using a combination of floating and Teeny 200-300 lines.
