Summary
One of the most stunning countries on the planet, the crystal clear rivers that start in the Andes offer the trout fisher the perfect habitat to persue their choosen quarry. The lodge sits on a high bank overlooking the river, within the heart of a private Fundo (farm).
Fishing
Situated south of the Chilean Lake District the Futaleufu is a stunning river with a health population of rainbows and browns trout. This large population of trout and the heavy hatches make this a classic trout fishing river. The average size is in the 14-16 inch catergory, but the chance of a much larger fish is a daily occurance. Other tributaries of the main river and nearby lakes can be easily accessed from the lodge. Fishing is by both wading and drift boats.
The Lodge
Tucked away deep in the Valle de las Escalas and situated right next to the river, this lovely little lodge accomodates upto six anglers in twin rooms. Cuisine features Chilean dishes cooked with fresh produce from the area and the the kitchen garden. Futa’s combination of fishing - hospitality and quaint traditional accomodation represents the best of Chilean fishing and ensures a magical experience. Lodge includes fly shop and fly tying table and 24hr internet service.
Equipment
Nine foot rods carrying 5-7 weight lines. Much of the fishing is with dries and terrestrials, but a heavy line weight will help turn over streamer patterns. Tapered leaders a must as are a range of fly sizes from 8-20’s.
