Summary
Few Irish sporting estates can rightly assert to be World-class but for one it is a fully justified claim, County Donegal’s Glenmore Rivers Estate. For generations this sport was reserved for the owning family and their friends, now it is available to you.
Fresh runs of salmon enter the river on every spate, from before the season opens on March 1st until well after the last day of the season in mid-September.
The Fishing
Centered on the River Finn, Glenmore’s folio of game fishing embraces a diverse range of venues and options for catching salmon, trout and sea-trout. Two primary rivers comprise the Finn fishery; the Rivers Finn and Reelan. It is on these two spate rivers that most of the fishing is done. Around the head-waters are seven mountain loughs (lakes) where free-rising wild brown-trout to over 2 pounds may be caught.
One of the great strengths of the Finn fishery is that runs of both spring salmon and summer grilse are very strong. Fish are normally in the river in substantial numbers from opening day and runs of fresh fish continue on each spate throughout the season.
In the event of overly high or low water conditions, and in association with other fisheries, we can offer our guests access to beats on numerous other renowned salmon rivers. The River Mourne’s Sna beat, the Galway Weir, The River Moy’s Ridge Pool or the classic Carnroe Beat on the River Bann are just some of those available to us.
Accommodation
Glenmore Lodge is a beautifully finished and furnished house offering the highest standard of accommodation, comfort and cuisine.
The newly-built lodge caters for up to eight guests in five bedrooms, three double (two with ensuite bathrooms) and two twin rooms. The two front bedrooms have a view of the river which is only eighty meters away.
The spacious downstairs accommodation comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining-room and living-room. A separate antique-filled drawing-room allows guests to relax in front of the peat-burning stove with a whiskey, wine or Irish coffee, while reading fishing and shooting books from the bookcase.
A detached rod/gun room is used to get kitted up for the day’s sport and for waders and clothes to dry off in preparation for the following day. The room is equipped with rod and gun racks.
There is ample parking, helicopter landing, laundry and freezer facilities and a safe for use by our guests.
