THE DESTINATION
Nestled among the white-peaked mountains of northern British Columbia lies a small fishing lodge known as Boundary. Beside this lodge flows an untamed wilderness river teeming with wild steelhead. Boundary Lodge is a remote, exclusive steelhead lodge catering for a maximum of six rods per week from September through to November. This is the Bell-Irving River, a tributary of the mighty Nass River, some 312km north-east of its sister operation Spey Lodge, and one of the fabled systems for big, wild steelhead. This is the real British Columbia wilderness.
THE FISHING
Boundary Lodge offers the angler unparalleled access to the entire length of the Bell-Irving River. Boundary’s four home pools are without a doubt some of the finest steelhead water that British Columbia has to offer. This outpost lodge is also in the heart of some of the best fishing on the Nass watershed. Few anglers ever experience fishing the Nass River - it is rugged, deceiving and often glacial. This is a watershed full of treasure awaiting the angler that has the heart to find it. The knowledgeable guides will put you on some of the greatest water for steelhead in the autumn months. Anglers use either jet boats to reach the fishing or will access the tributaries of the main river by drift boat. There will be one guide for every two anglers, and the guides are all expert Spey casters and will always be on hand to advise on tactics and techniques to suit the different conditions. The lodge and guides specialise in Spey casting but a single-handed eight-weight outfit also works fine for most of the fishing. Relax in excellent accommodations nightly under the northern lights along the river. While fishing, expect to see wildlife including moose, bears, possibly wolverines and even the chance of a mountain goat walking along your pool.
THE LODGE
Boundary Lodge was designed for the sole purpose of providing everything fly anglers will need during their stay. Four staff easily cater for the six guests’ needs, providing everything from special dietary requirements to a firm hand shake after you release your steelhead. The Boundary experience is casual, comfortable and friendly. A Boundary expedition is truly all-inclusive, including flies, tippet the use of top-quality rods and reels and even waders. That means anglers can make the journey to this wilderness fishery unencumbered by heavy gear - and it means you won’t lack essential equipment in the back country even if you do forget something.
